jackson2

When we talk about Michael Jackson we talk about a universe of influences on music, culture, public opinion. When Michael Jackson passed away a number of celebrities paid tribute to him on Michael Jackson website, with their songs and dance sequences. Madonna paid an immediate tribute at her concerts having her dancers do Jackson’s famous routines. Lady Gaga was so stricken by the tragedy she couldn’t come out of her house for days. Rihanna wore black. Bono of U2 did his rendition of Jackson’s hits. These artists are very different but they have all been influenced by the music of Jackson.

This happens because in a life of one artist Jackson managed to squeeze, and triumph in, a number of music styles. With the Jackson 5 Michael mastered the sweet sound of teenage pop, heartfelt soul and burgeoning disco and boogie. As a solo artist he became king of funk, influencing a number of artists from Kylie to Jay K. With Thriller Jackson made a crossover into rock with the famous Beat It and the guitar solo by Van Hallen. Another song, Give in To Me, with Slash, further cemented the idea of pop and rock working together to produce successful releases that can be now seen in music of Pink and Rihanna and many other artists. The legacy of the King will be reworked for the years to come.
